Gardner Making Progress

Bolton Wanderers defender Ricardo Gardner jetted back into England this week having had cruciate knee ligament surgery in the United States and manager Sam Allardyce says that the Jamaican international is making steady progress.

The 25-year old fell awkwardly having attempted to challenge Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher for the ball during last month's 2-1 defeat against the Red Devils which inevitably ended the player's season and forced him to have cruiciate surgery for the second time in four years having sustained a similar injury against Barnsley during a Division One game in the Spring of the 1999-2000 season.

Having visited top surgeon Dr Richard Steadman, the Wanderers boss Allardyce confirmed that the early recovery signs where good for Gardner who joins team mate Florent Laville on the sidelines with a similar injury which will unfortunately rule both out of the Carling Cup Final.

"Ricardo is making steady progress in his rehabilitation programme" Allardyce told the club's official site.
