Striker Kevin Davies scored four times in the first 28 minutes as a Wanderers starting XI including eight first-team regulars overwhelmed their hosts.
Kevin Nolan, Henrik Pedersen, Sean Mountford and Gary Speed were on target as the Trotters led 8-0 at half-time.
After eight substitutions at the break, Mountford and Ricardo Vaz Te completed the rout in front of 3,000 fans.
