Departing full-back Vincent Candela has issued a statement of gratitude to Bolton Wanderers for helping to resurrect his career.

The former French international claims that his six month spell at the Reebok Stadium has given him renewed hunger for the game, a hunger which he feels was lost when he was discarded by Roma after a seven year association in the Italian capital.

Candela will now head back to Italy following the expiry of his short term deal with Wanderers, he has signed a deal with Udinese and is looking forward to the prospect of returning to the Champions League stage next season.

However he told French newspaper L'Equipe that his spell in England had been a beneficial experience.

"At Bolton, I experienced six exceptional months, I found fun again in the game, but the Italian league suits my game much better. England is pressing everywhere. It is really a different game."

"I had clubs interested in me and I didn't hesitate when I received the Udinese offer. Leaving Roma was necessary. There was great pressure and I rarely played. Bolton was quite calm."
