Former Wanderers midfielder Wayne Burnett has joined Peterborough United on a non-contract basis after impressing Posh manager Barry Fry during a recent trial.

The 32-year old had been playing in non-league circles with Woking and Grays Athletic following his departure from Grimsby Town in September 2002 and the veteran now has a chance of a return to league football.

Lambeth-born Burnett has amassed over 200 games in a 15-year career which has seen him serve Leyton Orient, Blackburn Rovers, Plymouth Argyle, Bolton Wanderers, Huddersfield Town and Grimsby Town. He played just two games for the Trotters between 1995 and 1996 during their first spell in the Premiership but was more successful during his days with Grimsby where he scored the winning goal at Wembley Stadium in the 1998 Auto Windscreen Sheild Final.
