Paul Ritchie - foreign move in the pipeline?
Scotland defender Paul Ritchie could be set for a move to Major League Soccer in the USA after his contract with League One side Walsall was not renewed by Saddlers manager Paul Merson.

The 28-year old former Hearts and Manchester City player had an impressive six month spell with Bolton back in the 1999-2000 season but a lack of funds meant that the centre half moved back to Scotland to sign a Bosman agreement with Glasgow Rangers in a move which was to last just 71 days.

He later returned to the North West to sign for City and had loan spells with both Portsmouth and Derby County during his time at Maine Road before moving onto Walsall last summer where he regained back his place in the international team. Now it seems that despite reported interest from SPL outfit Livingston the player is seriously weighing up an offer by Metrostars coach Mo Johnston to move over to America.

"Mo has been on the phone and believe me he could sell sand to the Arabs," Ritchie told The Daily Record.

The player admitted he would need to consult his young family over his next move but stressed the need to act quickly given the current football climate which often sees many players out of work during this time of year.

"It's a big, big decision for me to make and I've got to make it in a short time. But I have two kids, Jordan who is five and Dylan who is one next week, and my wife Gillian to consider. It's got to be right for them first and foremost."
