Former Bolton Wanderers player Les Ferdinand has been awarded the M.B.E in the Queen's Birthday honours list which was announced earlier today.

Ferdinand 38, played for the Trotters last season making 12 appearances and scoring once, before moving on to Championship side Reading during the January transfer window.

The ex-England international has also enjoyed spells at Queens Park Rangers, Besiktas, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Leicester City.

Speaking of his new award Ferdinand said:

"I'm very honoured but it hasn't really sunk in. I suppose it won't until it all happens and I collect my award."

"When I look back to the days when I was playing local semi-professional football for Hayes, it seems a million miles away.

"I thought that was the highest level I could play at. I never envisaged I would make it into the professional ranks and do what I've actually done."
