Far East Trip Brings £1M

Sam Allardyce will bank more than £1m when he leads Bolton on their 12-day Far East tour.

No Bolton squad has ever travelled so far or earned so much from a pre-season trip with organisers and sponsors of the Thailand and Japan legs seeing Big Sam himself as one of the star attractions.

He is considering using the Far East games, two in the Premier League's Asia Cup tournament and two friendlies on the Japan leg of the four, to run the rule over trialists.

But he had hoped at this stage of the summer to have had the bulk of his business completed and his squad almost at full strength.

"The tour will be worth in excess of £1m , which is something this club has never done before in a pre-season," Allardyce told the Bolton Evening News.

"Not even the big clubs turn down the money that is on offer over there.

"It's mainly about getting everybody ready for sprinting on 13 August and not jogging because that first sprint is going to determine where we will finish. But there are masses (of players) in those countries and there must be some talent there."
