Alan Thompson
Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson is one of a number of new faces selected by England coach Sven Goran Eriksson for the forthcoming international friendly against Sweden.

The 30-year old former Bolton Wanderers midfielder is regarded as one of the best left footed players in the game and his inclusion in the 26-man squad comes as no surprise as the player has been consistent for his club this season both on the domestic and European front.

Thompson joined Bolton in the summer of 1993 in a £250,000 deal from Newcastle United and was a mainstay in the Wanderers teams for a number of seasons before switching to Aston Villa in the summer of 1998 following the Trotters relegation from the Premiership. Celtic snapped up the player in 2000 and he has since gone from strength to strength.

Aston Villa defender Jay-Lloyd Samuel, Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe, Manchester City midfielder Shaun Wright-Phillips and Norwich City goalkeeper Robert Green are the other new faces selected by Eriksson.
