"I'd be more than happy to pay up," Allardyce said, accepting the wager. "That would be very nice indeed."

Diouf is determined not to lose the bet but, more importantly, he is anxious to restore his reputation in the eyes of his team-mates, his manager and, more importantly, the Wanderers supporters.

"It's a big bet with Sam," he told Wanderers World. "But it's for the team, for myself and for the fans.

"I want to score 15 goals in the Premiership, and more in the cup competitions. I want to put the club in the best position it has ever been in.

"I am hungry and I am very confident. I know Bolton fans like me and I want to do it for them on the pitch."

Meanwhile, Bolton Wanderers have approached Zenit St Petersburg for striker Alexander Kerzhakov.

Kerzhakov was voted player of the year in the Russian league last season and was top scorer in 2004-05 with 18 goals.
