Coyle set to wheel and deal

Although the Trotters head to London for the opening fixture of the new season at Championship winners QPR on Saturday, it will be another three weeks before Coyle knows what his final squad is going to be.

The Bolton chief is hoping to persuade Shaun Wright-Phillips the lure of regular football at the Reebok Stadium is of more value than a heavier pay packet at Manchester City, whilst former Stoke striker Tuncay Sanli and Liverpool forward David N'Gog are also on his shopping list.

At the same time, Coyle will try to fend off any official interest that does materialise in star defender Gary Cahill now Arsenal are going to benefit from an influx of cash after the anticipated sales of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

It is not the ideal scenario ahead of a new season.

However, given the transfer window does not close until September 1, Coyle never expected it to be any other way.

"There will be wheeling and dealing done before September 1," said the Bolton chief.

"Players will be coming in and leaving at all clubs.

"We have all tried to have our business done by August 13 but it is not always possible. I was always a lover of the old fashioned system, when you could dip into the market when you wanted.

"Smaller clubs find the window more difficult if they pick up injuries along the way."
