Coyle refuses to set targets

Wanderers play their first home game of 2011 when they host Wigan, almost a year to the day since Coyle was appointed as manager.

Bolton have taken great strides over the course of those 12 months, rising out of the Barclays Premier League relegation zone to finish 14th last term and enjoying a successful start to the present campaign.

Currently lying seventh in the table, things are looking exciting for the year ahead, with the return of European football to the Reebok Stadium a realistic prospect.

Coyle, however, insists he only makes major assessments about what has passed and what might come next when a season finishes - and at the moment, his aspirations for the club have not shifted from what he was thinking last summer.

"I have the same target now as I did prior to the season starting - continued improvement for the football club," Coyle said. "That is where we are at and how we look at it. We don't think we want to be here, there or wherever. What I want is improvement, which comes in many forms and shapes."
