Coyle on mark in friendly win

Coyle, 15 years after his last appearance for Wanderers against Blackburn in August 1995, played 68 minutes in the friendly.

The 43-year-old chipped in with a second-half goal after Ivan Klasnic's early opening strike.

A mixture of youth and experience made the trip across the Irish Sea, with all of the fit senior players who didn't make the starting line-up for Saturday's victory over Wolves playing some part in the match at the Belfast-based club's Solitude Stadium.

Along with Coyle, seven recognised first-team players started the friendly, including Klasnic, who smashed a shot just wide with only his second touch of the game.

Wearing the number nine shirt, Coyle played a neat nutmeg through defender Ciaran Donaghy's legs and Klasnic made no mistake after 20 minutes.

The hosts came out after the interval and offered more of a threat, but whenever they got a sight at goal, Adam Bogdan was equal to the challenge.

Tamir Cohen cannoned a 30-yard effort just wide before Coyle grabbed his goal on 66 minutes with a clever lobbed finish from just inside the penalty area.
