Bolton Wanderers defender Simon Charlton has said that the club needs to sort out the futures of those who will be out of contract in the summer time as quickly as possible.

The 32-year old says that it is important that the current squad stick together so they are able to build on this season's acheivements. With twelve players out of contract this summer including Jay-Jay Okocha, Youri Djorkaeff, Emerson Thome and Kevin Davies to name a few Charlton says the contract situation is slightly worrying from his point of view.

"This is something the club have to sort out. There are about 10 or 12 first team squad members out of contract in the summer, that concerns me when you look at what this set of lads have achieved over the last two or three years."

The former Southampton and Birmingham City defender hopes that the club will sit down with those who are having their contracts up for renewal sooner rather than later and says it is vital everyone sticks together.

"Once you've started to gel as a squad and acheived what we are currently acheiving, you can't just get to the summer and have everyone scattered to the four winds. Its imperative the club sit everyone down and try and get them tied up. It is vitally important for us to keep this squad together"

Talks have already begun to try and secure the services of the Bolton skipper Okocha whilst veteran Frenchman Djorkaeff has pledged that he will open negotiations once Sunday's Carling Cup Final is out of the way. The others may have to wait until nearer the end of the season to learn their fate, however the Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has expressed an interest to keep all his out of contract players for next season but all is dependant on the financial situation at the club.
