Bolton Wanderers captain Jay-Jay Okocha has been named as the player of the tournament during the 2004 African Cup of Nations having helped his country Nigeria to within a whisker of the finals.

The 30-year old was instrumental for the Super Eagles during the tournament and used a similar influence and presence on the field which makes him such a hit at domestic level with Bolton.

Okocha was involved during Friday's 2-1 Play Off win over Mali and is expected to be back in Britain at some stage in the near future and he could be ready to face Manchester City in the local derby at The Reebok Stadium next weekend despite manager Sam Allardyce dropping hints that he may rest the former PSG player.
