Wanderers new boy Vincent Candela
French defender Vincent Candela has signed a five month deal with Bolton Wanderers after being released from his contract with Italian giants AS Roma late last week.

Wanderers beat off competition from Premiership rivals Southampton to land the 31-year old defender who has spent eight years as a regular at the Stadio Olimpico with Roma.

The former Tolouse and Guingamp player can operate in a variety of positions across the back four but is best known for his ability to bomb down the left hand side of the pitch in a wing back role.

Candela was part of the French World Cup winning team of 1998 and also appeared for "les bleus" in their European Championship truimph two years later. At club level he has won the Serie A championship with Roma as well as the Italian Cup in 2003 so his experience and pedigree is sure to be an invaluable assett to the Trotters in the months ahead.

The experienced stopper believes that it will not take long for him to adapt to his new surroundings.

"My decision to leave Roma had nothing to do with money, otherwise I would have stayed in Rome, I want to prove to myself and to others that I can still continue to play well."

"Bolton are a good team and there are three or four players who speak French there so they will hopefully help me to adapt quickly."

Bolton Mad would like to wish Vincent all the best during his time at Bolton.
