Campo Taken To Hospital

Bolton midfield ace Ivan Campo was rushed to hospital following a clash of heads with team-mate Gary Speed reports the clubs official website.

Both Campo and Speed went up to challenge for a header just after the quarter hour mark but the ex-Real Madrid player came off worst and was taken to a nearby hospital with a suspected fractured cheekbone.

Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce confirmed that the 30-year old will now face further tests to see if there is any damage.
"
Ivan went off to hospital and will have an operation to see if his cheekbone is fractured. There are two massive gashes - one above and one below the eye - and we may have to get a plastic surgeon to have a look at those. Hopefully, after that there'll be no fracture." he said

Ex-Wanderer Youri Djorkaeff sustained a similar injury in pre-season last year but was able to carry on playing thanks to a protective mask which he wore during the defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford in August 2003. Should Campo have suffered any fracture then this is an avenue that the Trotters could go down again.
