Brazilian defender Julio Cesar has been praised by Bolton manager Sam Allardyce following his performance against local rivals Manchester City at the weekend.

The former Real Madrid ace started only his third Premiership game of the season when filling in for the injured Ricardo Gardner at left wing back, and his performance against the Citezens seems to have impressed the technical staff enough for him to keep his place for the Boxing Day trip to Manchester United.

Bolton boss Allardyce said "Cesar did the job I asked of him. He marked Wright-Phillips very well and overall we limited them to very few chances."

Cesar 26, was signed from Real Valladolid following a successful trial in the summer.
