Boss Issues Safety Message To Players

Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has told the players who are out of contract in the summer that they must reach the 40-points target before new contracts will be talked about.

Youri Djorkaeff, Jay-Jay Okocha, Emerson Thome, Per Frandsen and Bruno N'Gotty are just some of the names who will need their contracts at the Reebok Stadium renewing.

Despite the fact that Kevin Davies has agreed an extension to his current deal the Wanderers boss says he will not be drawn into discussions with any one else until the club's Premiership future is decided

Allardyce beleives that just one more win will ensure that Wanderers will be playing Premiership football for a third successive season and says the incentive is there for those players to go out and beat Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday afternoon so that contract talks can begin.

"Once we are safe we will discuss everybody's contract," he said.

"We want to get into these negotiations as quickly as possible, so if the lads want to talk they had better beat Middlesbrough.

The Bolton boss also confirmed that once he has sorted out his current squad he will move onto other potential transfer targets in a bid to improve the first team squad for next season but states he is likely to do most of his business once the European Championships in Portugal are over.

"The sooner we get their situation sorted out, the more time we will have to watch other players and draw up a short-list for the summer. I can't see many deals being done before the European Championships but once they are over we want to move quickly."
