Borgetti Wants 20

Jared Borgetti has obviously studied the Bolton scoring stats of previous seasons, which had El-Hadji Diouf on top with a modest nine last season.

He said: "Around 10 is the average number of goals Bolton strikers get in a season, so that is a realistic target.

"But they have hired me to score goals and I'd like to promise them more than 20. I want to give them something back straight away.

"English football lends itself to the heading game and that is how I have scored a lot of my goals. That's what I know how to do best."

Borgetti, who is 6ft 2in and 12st 2lb, was known as Zorro of the Desert at his last club, Pachuca.

He'll be 32 the day after Bolton open their season at Aston Villa a week on Saturday, but Borgetti, who checked in from Mexico yesterday, added: "I have proved age does not matter in getting a move abroad.

"There is no secret to my fitness. I've been demanding with myself and kept in top shape. That's when doors open."

Borgetti is relishing his move to England.

"It's a big change but I am sure we are going to adapt," he said.

"Although I do not have much English, my wife Monica speaks the language and the children are young enough to get used to things.

"I am someone who is dedicated to his job and goes about things calmly.

"I have incredible patience but when I score I cannot stop screaming. Everything comes from the heart then."

His love of golf could help to break down language barriers with his team-mates, although Monica revealed: "He has to win whatever he plays. Even when I ask him to let me win, he refuses."
