Bolton Wanderers are close to sealing the signing of Mexico international striker Jared Borgetti.

The Reebok outfit will fork out nearly £1 million to Borgetti's club Pachuca for the 31-year-old's services. Borgetti is currently on international duty in the Gold Cup and will sign for Bolton once his participation in the competition concludes.

"I can confirm that Borgetti will be sold to Bolton," confirmed club president Jesus Martinez Patino.

"The clubs have reached an agreement. Pachuca will receive more than £900,000.

"The only thing remaining is the player to end his participation with the national team at the Gold Cup. Then he will travel to England to sign his contract."

Patino added Pachuca received larger offers, but Borgetti's desire to play in England ensured the club accepted Bolton's bid.

"We made a big effort for the player because we had better offers from other countries, but the player decided he wanted to play in the Premier League," added Patino.

"He considers The Premiership the most important league in the world. We are very happy and proud because this is an historical transfer for Mexican football.

"A century ago the English came to Pachuca to start football in Mexico and now Pachuca is the first Mexican team to transfer a player to England."
