Bolton Wanderers Premier League season review 2009-10

Last updated : 10 May 2010 By Telegraph

Stepping in for the harshly-dismissed Gary Megson, Owen Coyle unquestionably made the right decision to swap Burnley for Bolton, guiding the latter to comparative comfort.

Best Player: Chung-Yong Lee

Megson's final bequest to his former side, the South Korean has been a delight to watch all-season. Already linked with moves to some of the Premier League's superpowers.

Worst Player: Johan Elmander

Improved on his first season in the Premier League, but six goals for a £9 million striker simply is not good enough.

Moment of the season

The 2-2 draw with Hull which, perhaps unfairly, cost Megson his job and led to the emotional return of Coyle to the club he played for in the 1990s.

Big Issue

Can Coyle, a devotee of attractive football, change Bolton's philosophy to suit his own - and, more importantly, can he do it and keep them safe?

Verdict: 5 out of 10

Relegation was never likely to be a risk, under Megson or Coyle, in a season of upheaval at the Reebok. Coyle will be judged on next season's successes or failures.
