Bolton Trial for Pinto

Bolton Wanderers have taken 30-year old Portuguese defender Joao Manuel Pinto on a trial period despite reported interest from Premiership rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pinto, a centre-half, was linked to the club over the summer whilst with Benfica but Sam Allardyce failed to follow up his initial interest in the player. However with the injury to Florent Laville which is likely to keep the player out for most of the season and the fact that trialists Zoran Mirkovic and Marijan Kovacevic failed to impress the Bolton boss last week has led to him offering the former Porto star Pinto a chance to earn a move to the Reebok Stadium.

The player would be able to move to the club immediatly having left the Stadium of Light before the Transfer Window closed at the beginning of the month and the Wanderers boss has said he will look at how the Lisbon-born stopper does within the next week or so.

"We'll have a look at the player and make a decision once we have established that he is good enough for the Premiership. His CV looks good after spells with Benfica and Porto, Portugal's top clubs" said Allardyce.
