Michael Bridges - Bolton's first new signing this summer
Bolton Wanderers have completed the signing of striker Michael Bridges on a two-year contract following his release from relegated Premiership club Leeds United.

The 25-year old striker becomes Sam Allardyce's first recruit of the new season and will link up with the rest of the squad when they return to pre-season training at the start of next month.

Bridges cost Leeds a then record £5 million fee when moving from Sunderland in the summer of 1999 but a number of injury problems meant that his spell at Elland Road was less productive than he would have liked. A spell on loan with his boyhood heroes Newcastle United last season enabled the North Shields born player a chance of regular first team football again but the Magpies failed to rekindle their interest allowing Bolton to step in to complete the move.

Speaking to Sky Sports the player said he was absolutely delighted to be joining the Wanderers and admits he was very impressed with the set up at the Reebok Stadium.

"I am delighted with the move and it is a two-year deal, I was impressed by everything at Bolton the gaffer, the stadium and the players at the club." Bridges said

The Geordie admitted that he had a few offers on the table but said that the Bolton one was the most attractive out of them all and says that the influence of Sam Allardyce plus the team success on the field last season swayed his decision to move to Lancashire.

"I had a few offers from other clubs, but Sam's influence and their status in The Premiership was a major factor in the move." he added

BoltonMAD would like to wish Michael all the best during his time at the club
