Bolton manager Sam Allardyce is hopeful of completing a deal to bring Roma defender Vincent Candela to the Reebok Stadium by the end of the transfer window this evening.

Candela flew into England at the end of last week to agree terms with Bolton and Allardyce is confident that the former French international will pen a deal with Wanderers until the end of the season.

"I am confident that we will sign Vincent Candela from Roma on Monday," Allardyce told the official site

"In light of what has happened with Nicky Hunt, with his injury at Boundary Park, it might be a blessing in disguise that we can bring in a highly experienced full back to help out with our injuries at the back.

"I've been talking to the player for a couple of weeks now and I am pleased that we are nearly there to doing the deal.

Allardyce praised the players commitment and ambition during the negotiation stage and feels that the 31-year old will prove to be a sound asset to the Trotters squad

"He hasn't played regular football this year but is eager to impress in The Premiership. I have been pleased with the lad's commitment and his eagerness to be a top player for us."
