Chris Eagles? second-half goal was enough for Bolton to record a 1-0 win, their fourth successive home victory.
The defeat leaves Huddersfield in the bottom three though, with just six games left for them to play. The Terriers have lost six of their 10 games under new manager Mark Robins.
Huddersfield?s game against fellow strugglers Peterborough on Saturday is now vital for both sides. On the other hand, Bolton?s turnaround has been excellent. They were 20th at the start of February but Dougie Freedman has since sparked a revival for The Trotters.
Andy Lonergan pulled off a magnificent save in the early stages to deny Zat Knight an own goal. Huddersfield continued to threaten and captain Peter Clarke hit the crossbar.
In the second half, Alex Smithies had to be alert to deny David Ngog a goal for Bolton.
However, just before the hour mark, Marvin Sordell robbed Clarke on the left and burst towards goal before finding Eagles. The former Manchester United youngster netted with a clinical finish.
Bolton had a survive a late scare, as Lonergan saved a low shot from Sean Scannell. Huddersfield continued to press for a late equaliser but Bolton held on for three precious points to move above stuttering Middlesbrough in the league table.
