Bolton Wanderers director Ian Currie is said to be part of a second consortium which is planning to buy out Premiership rivals Leeds United but the Yorkshire based businessman has assured the people at Bolton that he will step aside once the takeover of the struggling Elland Road club is complete.

Currie, a finance expert with Zeus Capital joined Wanderers back in the 1999-2000 season as part of chairman Phil Gartside's boardroom restructuring following the resignation of previous Bolton chairman Gordon Hargreaves and has had interests in the past in buying out Leeds but in 1996 he lost out to the Caspian group, however he was part of the consortium which saved Sheffield United in the late 1990's.

Chairman Phil Gartside is said to be wanting an explanation as to Currie's involvement in the consortium which includes former Leeds player Trevor Cherry and the ex-Chairman of Huddersfield Town Terry Fisher.

"It's quite a compliment to Bolton Wanderers that people may think that I am involved in the consortium to save Leeds United. As part of the broking firm I work for we have helped many clubs in the past, including Bolton, it's just my day job really" Currie explained

"They all came about after a group of Leeds fans watched on the sidelines to see Leeds go into daire straits. They got talking to each other and were advised to come and see us to help raise such vast amounts of money"
