Bolton Deny Approaches For Allardyce

Newcastle United have not made any approaches to speak to the Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce according to a club spokesperson today.

Reports in The Sun newspaper this morning claimed that the Magpies had contacted Bolton chairman Phil Gartside in the hope of opening talks with the Trotters boss but these claims have been rejected out of hand by the club who are desperate to keep hold of their highly successful manager who has been at the helm since taking over from Colin Todd in October 1999.

"We have not had an approach from Newcastle to speak to Sam and it is all just speculation. As far as we are concerned it is all done and dusted and Sam is staying at Bolton." the spokesperson said today

Steve Bruce of Birmingham City, Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren and current Toon Army favourite Alan Shearer have also ruled themselves out of the running for the top job at St James Park as Mags chairman Freddie Shephard looks for a replacement for Sir Bobby Robson who was sacked earlier this week.
