Big Sam Looks To The Future

He says he wants to create another piece of history by qualifying for Europe again and is working towards that aim by striving to bring in up to seven new
players during the summer.

He says he has identified some targets and wants to see recruits start arriving at the Reebok before the start of the World Cup.

He said: "As we push on, expectations get ever bigger.

"There will be some hard work done in the summer to recruit as many players as we need who are better than what will be released and push on to try and create another little piece of history by getting into the UEFA Cup next season.

"That sustainability is what a club like ours should be all about.

"We have to make sure that we get younger, fitter and more players in the squad to enable us to sustain a long hard season like the one we have just had.

"One of our targets is that UEFA Cup spot.

"Now we have to sit down and look at budgets, look at the spending power and whatever it need to recruit better and younger players.

"The difficult time starts in a week or two after we have had a break.

"We have to go out and compete with other clubs with bigger resources than ours and we can only hope that what we have achieved over the last two years helps us recruit the sort of players that we need.

"Every year, wherever you finished, you look at your own position. You look to see what you have achieved and what you have done. Of course, I will do that when I get on my holidays.

"One or two lads are getting a little older, a little bit longer in the tooth.

"If we are go stay in the top half of the Premiership we have to change them and get younger ones."
