Bolton currently have 40 points - two more than third bottom West Ham - and although Allardyce originally thought 41 points would guarantee another season in the top flight he now thinks two points from Wanderer's need two more points from their remaining two games.

Allardyce said: "I now think 41 points might not be enough to ensure safety this season.

"We are getting positive results and so are West Ham, so it could be the year when a club is relegated with a record points tally.''
