Big Sam: It's looking very bleak

Allardyce said after the defeat at White Hart Lane: "We have taken only one point in the last 15 and it is looking very bleak.

"We have created more chances this season than last but are having trouble converting them and we need to be more clinical in front of goal. If you gave some of our chances to Alan Shearer he would put them in the back of the net, but we are not converting them into goals.

"Defensively we don't work hard enough to get back behind the ball, whereas we did that last season and made life difficult for the opposition, so we have got to get back to basics.

"We have got an experienced back four and last year and earlier this season they were doing the job we pay them to do, but at the moment they are not quite doing it unfortunately.

"It is difficult to take when the overall performance of our players was pretty good today. But in the end our sloppy defending for the first two goals bitterly disappointed me.

"It wasn't as if it was great inventive play by Tottenham for the goals and we had enough people as a defensive unit to deal with that situation comfortably but failed to.

"Having come back from a goal behind away from home once with a very good goal, we really should have had enough determination and experience out there to see the game out as a draw."
