However, he did concede that West Brom probably deserved their point.
"I am sick of the way we are conceding goals," said Big Sam.
"We should have killed the game off before they equalised. All you are asking players to do is basic defending, no more than that, and these things are very costly.
"We had a massive opportunity to make our points tally equal with games played and that takes you a long way to safety.
"Instead we had to settle for just the one point, although to be fair to West Brom both sides missed good chances."
