Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce will not have to take a pay cut after it was confirmed by the man himself that a comment made by assistant Phil Brown yesterday was intended as a joke.

Brown told BBC GMR that the manager would have to take a wage cut due to the clubs current financial situation and this was taken seriously by numerous journalists over the country, however the Bolton boss has said that the remark was made tongue in cheek and confirmed he will not have to take a cut.

The manager described the comments as "a complete misunderstanding" and this was backed by chairman Phil Gartside who admitted he won't be asking the manager to take a drop in wages.
