Sam Allardyce says that the disappointment of losing out to Middlesbrough in last seasons Carling Cup final is making him more determined than ever to win the competition this time around.

His Bolton team take on Tottenham Hotspur this evening after managing to overcome a potential banana skin tie against Yeovil Town in the previous round and he says the feelings of the cup defeat to Boro in February still haunt him.

"This is the easiest route to Europe and I want to win it more than ever after going so close last season".

"I can still feel the doom and gloom of that day, the feeling of wanting to sneak away"

Allardyce has seen his team go from Premiership strugglers to European chasers in the space of eighteen months and says the next step is to win some silverware.

"We have now established ourselves in the Premiership and the next step for me has to be winning a trophy"
