Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce heaped praise on his captain Jay-Jay Okocha after the Nigerian international was one of six players shortlisted for this year's PFA Players Player of the Year Award.

Okocha has been nominated for the honour by his fellow professionals along with Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, Alan Shearer of Newcastle United, Frank Lampard of Chelsea and Arsenal duo Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira and Allardyce beleives it is a great honour for the player to be recognised in such a way.

Despite some poor performances since January's African Cup of Nations campaign Allardyce reveals a sense of pride in the midfielder and says on the whole the midfielder has had a magnificent season.

"Jay-Jay’s form has been disappointing since the African Nations Cup, but we must remember what he did before when he was magnificent. This shows the impression he has made on the Premiership this year and what the players think. We only watch him but the players are out there in action against him. They know what he produces, Jay-Jay should be very proud because I am.” Allardyce said
