The Spaniard has already announced his decision to retire from the game this summer but Allardyce thinks that the 37-year-old still has something to offer and is hoping to tempt him with a new deal at Bolton.

"After Frank Lampard, Fernando has been the best midfielder in the country since Christmas," said Allardyce.

"The guy has been phenomenal.

"He doesn't play long balls, he plays long passes and his success rate with them is superb.

"I want to talk to him about his decision face to face."
