Allardyce Has Relegation Fears

Sam Allardyce fears that Bolton Wanderers could be involved in a relegation battle if they fail to halt their recent troubles following yet another defeat, this time to Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers.

The former Blackpool and Notts County cheif says that the current slump by the Trotters is his biggest test since re-joining the club back in October 1999, a test which he says is bordering on a crisis.

"We are sliding towards the relegation zone,Our form is only a hair's breadth away from putting us in the bottom three. It is not about who we play next, it is about how we play. We have to get back to the way we know works for a result.

"I have not had anything this big in my five years here. When I arrived here we were in crisis in the bottom half of the First Division but we still got into the play-offs that year."

Bolton have lost all their games in December and haven't won since the end of October and Allardyce says that the club need a positive result if they are to lift the confidence within the camp.

"We never lost three on the trot, never mind six. We have lost our last three home games 1-0 and that effects confidence and performance. There is a severe lack of confidence running through the team and the only thing that will change that is a win or a draw.

The Wanderers manager says that he has confidence problems both in the defence and up front, with only two clean sheets coming from the last 19 matches and only four goals scored in the last five games.

"We have only kept two clean sheets all season and that lack of confidence is now effecting us at the other end. We are not producing the same quality finish or delivery, we have stopped turning half chances into goals
