Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed an interest in the veteran Russian International centre half Viktor Onopko and is keen to have the 34-year old in the Reebok ranks when the transfer window opens in January.

Onopko has hired an English based agent in the hope of finding a club in the top two divisions in England with Cardiff City, Sunderland and Wolves all said to be keen on the Alania Vladkavikaz player who played a starring role as captain for his country when marking John Hartson in the European Championship match against Wales at the Millenium Stadium and Allardyce has already been alerted.

"We are aware of Onopko's situation" Allardyce told the clubs official site

"We have been monitoring him for some time, he had an excellent game for Russia against Wales recently and is a player that would benefit our squad. We will continue to monitor the situation as we approach January"
