Allardyce Admits Transfer Frustration

Sam - left frustrated in transfer search
Sam Allardyce has told a Sunday newspaper that he is far from happy at not being able to add at least one of five potential big name signings to his squad to improve on last years mid-table success.

So far the Bolton boss has hit a brick wall in his attempts to bring players to the club with only Leeds United striker Michael Bridges confirmed as the newest addition to the Wanderers team.

Allardyce told the Sunday People newspaper he feels baffled that the club have failed to deliver their promise of bringing in some quality names during the summer months with the start of pre-season training just a few weeks away. Targets such as Rivaldo, Dado Prso, Jeremie Brechet and Abdoulaye Meite have all commited their futures elsewhere despite them being very high up on Bolton's wanted list and the Wanderers manager Allardyce is slightly concerned going into the pre-season programme as once again it seems he will have to work under a shoestring budget and with a small squad.

"I should be having an enjoyable break this summer, looking back with pride on a wonderful season and optimistic about moving the club forward with the addition of some key players to make sure we keep going in the right direction.

"But that's not happened and instead I am sitting by the pool totally frustrated and desperate about how we are going to compete next season. In many ways we are not even standing still - we are going backwards and that's a real disappointment because I had hoped this club had an ambition to match my own.

"We've had a fabulous season, the best in the recent history of Bolton, but it doesn't feel that way at all.

"We're going to have to cope with the extra expectations of our fans who will want us to perform just as well next season. But we haven't got a hope of doing that if this situation continues.

"I needed those five names plus three more squad players but so far we have signed Michael Bridges on a free transfer."
