Akin was a free agent confirms the FA

Akin's former club Galatasaray - through their lawyer Jean Louis Dupont - confirmed earlier in the week, their plans to sue Bolton Wanderers, alleging the player was still under contract to them when he came to the Reebok Stadium in July.

However, Wanderers officials have stated that Akin wasn’t under contract with Galatasaray.

Football Secretary Simon Marland said: “Akin Bulent was a free agent before he joined the club. The Football Association has confirmed all the relevant paperwork was in order concerning Akin Bulent’s transfer from Galatasaray to Bolton Wanderers.

“Also, the Turkish Football Association provided international clearance for the player prior to the completion of his transfer to Bolton Wanderers Football Club, therefore confirming his availability as a free agent.”
