Portsmouth Preview

Bolton face a tough trip to Fratton Park this Tuesday when they take on newly promoted Portsmouth. Pompey have won their opening home game against Aston Villa and had earned a creditable draw away at Manchester City over the weekend whilst the Wanderers lost on the opening day to Manchester United and drew at the weekend at home to Blackburn Rovers.

Sam Allardyce is expected to name roughly the same set of players which featured in the Blackburn game which would mean a place on the bench once again for new signing Mario Jardel. Ex-Southampton striker Kevin Davies will be well known to Pompey fans and he will be hoping to build on his goal against Rovers at the weekend, meanwhile another ex-Saint Simon Charlton is making good progress after a knee injury. Jonathan Walters, Jermaine Johnson and Ndiwa Lord-Kanagana are all out on loan so will be unavailable for selection.

Harry Redknapp's side look set to include former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham in their attack as well as Nigerian international Yakubu Aiyegbeni. Hayden Foxe, Tim Sherwood, Matthew Taylor and Svetoslav Todorov are all out injured so recent signing from West Ham Sebastien Schemmel will get another chance to impress as will former Wigan Athletic and Barnsley defender Arjan De Zeeuw.

Last time the two sides met was in the Nationwide League, Bolton won both games 2-0 and 2-1 respectively, however the South Coast outfit have come a long way since then and their early season form has shown this will be a tough match.
