Newcastle United Preview

Last updated : 29 October 2004 By Mark Heys
Bolton will be hoping to put the midweek Carling Cup defeat to Spurs behind them as they get back to Premiership action this Sunday against a strong Newcastle United team.

The Magpies have yet to be beaten under the new management of Graeme Souness whilst the Wanderers have yet to suffer defeat at home in the league, needless to say that both sides will be hoping to end their opponents unbeaten streak this weekend.

Games against the Toon Army are always entertaining encounters with lots of attacking football being played hence the reason why this game has been chosen for live television viewing.

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce is set to restore Jussi Jaaskelainen, Radhi Jaidi, Bruno N'Gotty and ex-Magpie Gary Speed to his team after they were rested for the Tottenham game. Striker Les Ferdinand will be set for a role on the Trotters bench against his former club despite speculation of a return to QPR in the week.

Allardyce will definately have to do without Spanish midfielder Ivan Campo who is still resting following a facial injury picked up in the last home game against Crystal Palace. African winger Khalilou Fadiga may not be risked after spending part of the week in hospital and reserve keeper Andy Oakes is also a doubt having picked up an ankle injury last week.

Newcastle manager Graeme Souness must decide whether to hand Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert a starting role after his impressive performance against Norwich in the Carling Cup. A number of other players are set to resume their places in the side after being rested for the game against the Canaries so that will mean a return to Bolton for ex-Trotters defender Robbie Elliott.

Last season a freak goal by Henrik Pedersen gave Bolton all three points at the Reebok Stadium in March in a game which ultimately sent the Lancashire team on a fine run over the Easter period. This time the good fortune will not be extended but it is sure to be another cracking encounter featuring two of the league's form teams.
