Blackburn Rovers Preview

Last updated : 09 January 2004 By Mark Heys
Bolton Wanderers will be hoping to put Wednesday night's defeat by Manchester United behind them as they face another derby test at the weekend to take on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Wanderers and Rovers have drawn every league meeting since they where both promoted in 2001, the latest coming in August when a last minute Dwight Yorke goal rescued a point for Graeme Souness side.

Bolton go into the game without Ricardo Gardner who damaged his knee ligaments in the United game so Simon Charlton will switch to left back with Emerson Thome coming into the centre of defence to partner Bruno N'Gotty. Florent Laville is a couple of months away from returning to full fitness following ligament damage whilst Mario Jardel is still struggling with a hamstring problem which has kept him out of the last two matches. Javi Moreno, who had an impressive debut in midweek, will be pushing for a place in the starting line up. Ex-Rovers duo Per Frandsen and Kevin Davies will have starting roles against their former team.

Rovers have doubts over defensive duo Craig Short and Andy Todd. Short has a hamstring injury which he picked up in the draw with Wolves on Wednesday night whilst former Bolton defender Todd has a calf problem. Midfielder Barry Ferguson is a long term casualty after breaking his kneecap. Dwight Yorke will be pushing for a starting role against the Trotters after the former Aston Villa and Manchester United man gained Rovers a point with his goal at Molineux but Bolton-born Garry Flitcroft is suspended for the clash against his hometown club.
