Arsenal Preview

First it was Liverpool, then it was Manchester United and now it is Arsenal. Could the fixtures have fallen any worse for Bolton Wanderers at the start of the season?.

Wanderers travel to Highbury on Saturday hoping to become the team to stop Arsenal's record breaking run which has seen them go undefeated in the league for nearly 17 months.

Many would obviously fancy the home side on current form but then the same could be said for the visiting Trotters team who have taken ten points from a possible fifteen in their first five matches of the season.

Bolton came within a whisker of beating their arch rivals Manchester United last weekend with only a late, late goal by David Bellion snatching United a 2-2 draw so the Gunners will know all too well that they will be in for a hard time if complacency sets in.

Last season a wonder goal from Henrik Pedersen gave Wanderers a deserved point at the Reebok Stadium in a 1-1 whilst the return fixture in London six months ago ended 2-1 to the Arsenal.

Trotters boss Sam Allardyce will be able to call upon the services of Jamaican wing back Ricardo Gardner after he missed last weeks game with United due to international commitments. Anthony Barness who filled in for Gardner is likely to be demoted as a result.

Last week's goalscoring hero Kevin Nolan is expected to keep his place in the side ahead of European champion Stelios Giannakopoulos.

Forward pairing Les Ferdinand and El-Hadji Diouf will be hoping that their impressive substitute displays against the Red Devils will have pushed them further into the managers thinking for the clash against the current Premiership champions.

Senegal midfielder Khalilou Fadiga also gives Allardyce more options following his midweek move from Inter Milan, although it is unlikely that the winger will feature for at least another month as he builds up his fitness.

Arsenal will be without England defender Sol Campbell (Achillies) but there is better news for manager Arsene Wenger as he looks to restore Swedish attacker Freddie Ljungberg to his line up. The Scandinavian forward had been suffering with a back injury which forced him to miss the recent PSV Eindhoven game.

Only French youngster Jeremie Aliadiere is on the long term injury list as he will be out until the spring with a knee problem.

The Gunners have done magnificently to remain unbeaten for so long but the Wanderers have often been there to spoil the party as the Londoners can testify first hand having seen the title removed from their grasp two seasons ago in a game at the Reebok Stadium.

It is sure to be an uphill task for the Trotters but one which they are prepared for, having been playing with confidence since the season began. The game is live on SKY's Pay Per View channel, could Sam's side once again upset the record books?, or is there more to come from Wengers invincibles.
