Bolton Wanderers reserves started off their Manchester Senior Cup campaign with a win against near neighbours Oldham Athletic with the tie going to a penalty shoot-out.

The scores were goalless at full time but the Wanderers managed to hold their nerve during the shoot-out by winning 4-2 after Bolton goalkeeper Andy Oakes had saved penalty kicks from Latics duo David Lee and Wes Wilkinson.

Foreign quartet Duong Thach, Ricardo Vaz-Te, Reda Kribib and Bedi Buval all managed to convert their efforts past the the Oldham goalkeeper Andy Marriott setting the Trotters up very nicely for the next stage of the competition which will be against Bury at the County Ground in four weeks time.

Meanwhile the reserves are back in action this Monday evening as they take on last seasons FA Premier Reserve League (North) Champions Aston Villa in a home encounter.
