Gary Cahill now worth 175m after earning first England cap

The Trotters centre back made his Three Lions bow against Bulgaria at Wembley last week when he replaced the injured Michael Dawson, triggering an add-on to the escape clause value of £15m agreed when he signed a new deal at The Reebok a year ago.

And with Dawson ruled out for eight weeks with a knee injury, Cahill is setfor his second cap tonight as England take on Switzerland in theirsecond Euro 2012 qualifier.

The former Aston Villa defender has expressed his delight at making Fabio Capello's side after a blood clot last season almost ended his career.

He said: 'I had a bad injury but came back from that.

'It made me appreciate playing football, especially for your country because it is at the top level and it is what you strive for.

'I am honoured and proud to play for England. I had to wait for my chance and thankfully it came against Bulgaria.

'Rio Ferdinand's injury problems have left a door open for a place in the centre of defence.

'There are a number of players battling for that space. All I can do is keep my head down and work hard.'

Meanwhile, Bolton have confirmed youngster Danny Ward has committed his future to the club by signing a new three-year contract.

The 18-year-old forward has made only two substitute appearances for Wanderers, but impressed during a loan spell with Swindon last season.

Bolton boss Owen Coyle today indicated Ward is likely to go out on loan again in the next few weeks, with npower Championship side Coventry thought to be his most likely destination.
